A school library had been a long-standing aspiration of Tygersig Primary, and over many months a disused classroom was slowly transformed into the pride of the school!
Old cupboards and furniture were refashioned into shelving, and Dignified Spaces provided an additional five custom built units (assembled by Pren over a weekend!), and secured a donation of carpeting to create a cosy area where children can read.
The Desmond Tutu TB Centre at Stellenbosch University organised a donation of books from the Rotary Club of Kirstenbosch, and arranged for the Arch himself to open the library on 17th August 2010!
Amidst great expectation and fanfare, Archbishop Tutu arrived and was greeted by choirs from Tygersig and neighbouring schools and excited staff and guests. He read to the children and engaged in jovial banter. He encouraged them to read, to complete their schooling and have high aspirations.
Mr. Windvogel, the Headmaster, proclaimed this “the best day” of his life!
